I have a real soft spot for donkeys, handled correctly they are lovely gentle creatures. I loved the peace and the passive interaction of these two, it just shouts warm sunny day and no worries!

Unfortunately donkeys have a very tough time in many parts of the world and I have supported the ‘Brooke hospital charity’ for some time. They supply education and supply veterinary treatment for working horses and donkeys in the poorer countries around the world.

Some years ago I was demonstrating at ‘Crufts’ and found myself next to the Greyhound rescue stand. One particular ‘blue dog’ was lying just in front of me and he was the perfect subject. I love all sight hounds as a subject. Nothing is hidden in a Greyhound, every structure and form which makes them the athletes they are, is on show.

I often like to make two animals as the interaction and contrasts I find really interesting. When planning a piece like this I always try and contrast the two subjects, in this case one sitting, one lying, immediately giving two different levels. Then they need to relate to each other in a way that those of us that live with dogs, can recognise.
